Day of Caring is our opportunity to rally hundreds of volunteers for a transformative experience. Taking part in Day of Caring is a great way for anyone of any age to lend a helping hand to amazing organizations that are strengthening the communities where we live and work in.

Have you ever had the opportunity to meet an owl up close? Here’s an opportunity Master Falconer, Jane Kelly from On The Wing in Omro, WI. You may know Jane from her appearances on Northwood Law while assisting NHF&G with admitting and rehabilitating raptors. (She was also our favorite speaker at one of our 2022 Rotary meetings.) Jane will share what rehabilitation of wild raptors entails. We’ll learn about the importance of our raptors in the health of our ecosystems and in our own health, be introduced to multiple species of raptors, and also learn the simple ways that they can help our local raptors right now – like not using rodenticide! There will also be time for Q&A and photos following the program.

Ieva Engel, President of the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, has seamlessly transitioned from a long career in healthcare leadership to pursue her passion for animal welfare. Originally from Riga, Latvia, Ieva embarked on her American journey in 2003. After residing in California and Illinois, she found her home in the Fox Valley community in 2008. With a rich background spanning 15 years in healthcare leadership, Ieva most recently held the position of VP of Cardiovascular Service Line for Ascension Wisconsin. Today, her unwavering dedication is directed towards ensuring the humane society continues its life-saving mission, one animal at a time. At the heart of OAHS lies compassion, guiding every endeavor. From providing homeless pets with top-tier medical care, nutrition, exercise, and socialization within a secure shelter environment, to facilitating ideal pet adoptions and reuniting lost pets with their families, OAHS embodies a commitment to animal welfare. Their services extend to behavioral counseling for pet retention, low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics, emergency aid, and even a pet food pantry, fostering the wellbeing of pets and their human companions alike. Nick Schneider has been an Agribusiness, Farm Operations and Soils Instructor at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton for ten years. Prior, he was an Agriculture Agent for UW-Extension in Winnebago County for six years and Clark County for three years. His emphasis has been educating people about conservation in agronomy. He has been a Certified Crop Advisor for 20 years, beginning as a research agronomist in central Illinois. Nick grew up on a small dairy farm near Merrill, WI. Topic: With the recent publication of the 2022 Agriculture Census, Nick will discuss trends in agriculture locally and statewide. We’ll discuss the evolution of modern farming in Winnebago Country and Wisconsin while sharing insight about future trends. Please feel free to discuss curiosities you may have about agriculture today.

The Oshkosh Fire Department is honors members of its agency in a distinct way. In December 2022, the department revealed its Wall of Honor to show appreciation for first responders. The Oshkosh Fire Department’s Wall of Honor highlights past and active veterans and those who served during 9/11. In addition, also honoring the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 and the three firefighters from their department who perished in the line of duty.

There is a beautiful wrap around deck to sit out on and enjoy the weather and the river. Let’s hope for good weather for a nice social evening to celebrate Karlene and her year as President of our club. Food and beverage will be set up inside the pavilion and included in the cost. We will need a few volunteers to help set up during the day along with some help to tear down and clean up. We have the pavilion reserved from Noon until 10pm.
RSVP will be required. Please use the sign up sheet located by the name tag boxes.

The B&GC has been on a journey starting in 2019 with conversations with partners. After seeing a need to serve more kids and families a Capital Campaign began. Five phases make up the campaign consisting of remodeling, new construction, playground, community center and an additional gym. The B&GC serves 150 more kids per day and has 20+ partners serving not only the kids and families but kids and families throughout the Oshkosh community.
